The department of Science at Hutatma Rajguru Mahavidyalaya is committed to student success by providing the highest level of education. The Department of Science provides the students an opportunity to study following subjects.

The department of physics was established along with the establishment of the college in 1977. T.Y.B.Sc. Classes started in 1989. Prof. V. D. Kulkarni is the Head of the Department of physics. The physics laboratory consists of a general laboratory, a dark room and a computer room. The laboratory has adequate equipments for performing various experiments. The department of Physics runs a hobby center for sky observation for last four years. The Department runs a programme to create awareness regarding Energy Saving. The department also arranges visits of students to different institutes like IUCCA Pune,GMRT khodad,NCL Pune, Dept. of Physics,University of Pune, Vidnyan Ashram Pabal. The lecturers of distinguished guests are also arranged by the Department.

There have been examples of our students topping the university merit list like Ms. Momin Samirabanu Bashir. Most of our students have been working with various reputed organizations in the country and abroad and a few of them are also in the administrative services and in education.

Trends in Success and dropout rates:

The results of the Department of Physics are around 80%.The dropout is found to be negligible.

The Chemistry department of Hutatma Rajguru Mahavidyalaya started in 1977. Chemistry is the largest science department of the college. In its history of 34 years, it has grown considerably. In July 2007 non post graduate course in organic chemistry was started in the department which contributed to the development of the department.

Chemistry subject can be offered as

  1. One out of four subjects offered at F.Y.B.Sc. The possible subject combinations offering Chemistry are PCMS and PCBZ.
  2. One out of three subjects offerd at S.Y.B.Sc. The possible subject combination offering Chemistry as PCM and CBZ.
  3. Chemistry as a principal subject at T.Y.B.Sc.

Curriculum:

Research is supplementary to teaching. If students are motivated right from the beginning, they may find interest in doing research activities. Since the activities are do-it-yourself activities, teachers should also be included in such activities.

Placement:

We guide our student in the development of their soft skill. Our M.Sc. and B.sc.Student are placed in different chemical companies.

The Department of Zoology started along with establishment of the college i.e. in 1978. The necessary facilities for 11th to TYBsc students related to Zoology are available in the department. The facilities of the department include instruments of all the other infrastructural facilities.

Students Profile:

The students of dept. come from the remote areas of Khed taluka and most of them belong to families of farmers.The results of FY SY & TY Bsc are very good; 90% students obtain distinction. Majority of the students have been securing distinction & first class since the last six to seven years.

The Faculty of Zoology Dept. takes active participation in syllabus workshops organized by the University of Pune; the Head of Dept Dr. S. B. Patil takes active participation and he was also selected as BOS in Zoology at the University of Pune on 2 Sept. 2010. He has been awarded by ISCA to publish highest research paper

Every teacher uses modern teaching methods i.e. the use of OHP, LCD, computers, printers, scanners, etc.

Our staff members participate in national state & international level workshops. They present papers & publish them.

  • The students of our Department shows excellent results every year in the University of Pune Examinations. In the year 2012-13, pass out result was 100%, of which more than 70% scored a distinction.
  • In the Pune University S.Y.B.Sc. examination, student from our Botany Department Miss. Nangare Sonali topped the merit list in Botany-II (Sem-I). She got 100 % marks in Plant Physiology.
  • Mr. Khodade H.H., former student and staff of our department cleared National Eligibility Test (NET).
  • Most of our students have been working with various reputed organizations in the country and abroad and a few of them are also in the administrative services.

This college was established in June 1977 with special permission from the government of Maharashtra. It was the first college in this tribal part of Pune District to start a science faculty. The founder precident of Khed Taluka Sikshan Prasarak Mandal, Late. Shri. Sahebraoji Buttepatil, was of the view that each and every student must get an opportunity of education.

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1977; since that year, we offered F.Y.B.SC and S.Y.B.SC in the subsequent year. The number of students opting mathematics has been increasing since 1985.

We pay attention to the problems faced by the students. They are encouraged to perform better with the help of personal counseling. We also try to improve their mental ability and logical thinking for being successful in various competitive examinations.
